Join Katharine Scalora, E-RYT and co-owner of Earth & Aerial Yoga, in our studio, to learn the many ways you can incorporate the aerial yoga silk in a traditional yoga class and apply your existing teaching skills to an alternative specialty. Breath as Movement: Creative Possibilities for Your Practice

Saturday, January 9, 2021
1:30-3:00 PM

Where does your breath begin, and where does it travel to in your body? How can you incorporate breath more effectively into your own home practice or yoga classes? Join us to discover the power of your own breath!  In this workshop we will explore breathing as the primary practice for resetting the parasympathetic nervous system into the rest and digest mode. We will begin with studying the anatomy of the breathing organs and how they relate to the vagus nerve and your body’s relaxation response. A gentle asana flow, linking movement and breath, will follow to help underscore the intersection of postural yoga with pranayama breathing practices, as part of the Ashtanga eight-limbed path. We will end with a drawing / painting meditation, centered around the creative union of breath and movement. This course is designed to help anyone interested in learning more about breath and movement to begin a home practice, sustain a seasoned practice, or deepen their teaching skills.

Props needed: mat, blanket or towel, bolster or bed pillow, block or thick book, paper, pencil, water, drinking straw, rubber bands, salt, string, & food coloring or watercolor paint.
